ABOUT
Emily Chiu is an award-winning composer, orchestrator, and writer working across film, television, and theater. Her sharp, idiosyncratic voice blends cinematic scope with intimate, off-kilter detail to create emotionally charged musical worlds that are vivid, unruly, and alive.
She composed the score for the viral animated musical series Furina: ALIVE! (with script and songs by Marcus Perkins and Kim Jinhyoung), featuring characters from Genshin Impact, and has orchestrated for film and television projects including Beyond Goodbye (Netflix), Story Ave. (Sony Pictures), and The Spiderwick Chronicles (Paramount).
Her theater work leans into heightened worlds with a sense of humor and bite, balancing sincerity with a tongue-in-cheek edge. Credits include American Girl Live! (U.S. National Tour); Bak Chang <肉粽> (5th Avenue Theatre); Unshelved <圖書館奇妙夜> (Shanghai Conservatory of Music and other venues in China); Keaton and the Whale (Tom Hendry Awards Shortlist); and Apollo (Highland Arts Theatre). Her work has been developed, translated, and presented across the United States and Asia in productions, tours, and workshops.
Emily holds an MFA from NYU Tisch’s Graduate Musical Theatre Writing Program and a BA in Music from Brown University. She also works in lyric translation and localization for international productions, including L’art Reste (K-Musical Award for Best Music, Script, and Production), Showman - The Fourth Body Double of a Dictator (Best Show of the Year - Korea Musical Awards), and Tropical Angels (Taiwan National Theater).
